About

ISLAND MOTHER 1 super small

Kate works across mediums, using tools like her Holga camera, smartphone, lithographs, stock imagery, Photoshop, and typography to create rich, layered multimedia pieces.

Whether crafting digital collages or experimenting with print, she blends analog and digital techniques—scanning photos on film, incorporating digital images, overlaying type, and integrating hand-drawn sketches. On her Mac, she explores the interplay between image and language, producing evocative compositions that merge design with narrative.

During the pandemic, she spent many nights creating portraits made entirely of typography, honoring figures such as George Floyd and John Lewis. More recently, she has been exploring gel plate printmaking in her basement, experimenting with texture, color, and layering techniques to further expand her printmaking practice.

Ever curious and committed to growth, Kate continually pushes the boundaries of her creativity—not only in graphic design as a profession, but also through writing, editing, and visual storytelling.

Her photography has appeared in Washington, D.C. Councilperson Muriel Bowser’s 2014 Annual Report for Ward 4, D.C. Councilperson Anita Bonds’ October 2014 Annual Report, and Dance Place’s 2014–2015 season program in Washington, D.C., which featured her portrait of the organization’s co-directors.
